CPR training in schools is now mandatory

CPR is a critical and potentially lifesaving skill, yet, there is ample room for improvement.

  • The UK survival rate from bystander CPR: less than 10%.
  • The Norwegian survival rate from bystander CPR: 70%. CPR training in schools has been mandatory since 1961.

After years of lobbying the UK government by the Resuscitation Council UK and its partner organisations through its Every Child a Lifesaver campaign, CPR training is now mandatory in schools across the UK.

"Introducing CPR lessons into health education in all state-funded secondary schools is a significant step that promises to improve the odds of survival for countless people who have a cardiac arrest in the future."
